NordicTrack CX 1055 This NordicTrack CX1055 review includes details on NordicTracks top of the line elliptical trainer including incline capabilities, built in workouts, and height and weight pros and cons. Keep reading for more information on the Nordic Track CX 1055 Elliptical machine. The NordicTrack CX 1055 is one of the company's top of the line elliptical trainers. The CX 1055 is in the moderate-high price range and comes with many premium features for the money. The 1055 is a step up from the next lower priced NordicTrack elliptical, the CX 998. There aren't many differences between the two models, though the areas in which they differ may mean a lot to you as an individual. The CX 1055 features a larger, updated "Solaris" console, nine additional built-in workouts, and an improved stride configuration they like to call "stride thru". However, in spite of the improved stride configuration, the NordicTrack CX 1055 comes with the standard 18" stride length. This stride length is fine for shorter individuals, but if you're taller, this may not be comfortable for you. In addition to the features mentioned above, the CX 1055 includes a power incline ramp. This incline feature helps you to vary your workouts and add the additional challenge of resistance. Just like walking up a hill burns more calories than walking along a flat surface, working out on an incline burns more calories as well as tests your muscles. If the resistance from the power incline isn't enough, the CX 1055 also has "silent" magnetic resistance. This feature uses magnets to change the amount of resistance during a workout. The change is quiet and non-jarring. You can best utilize the power incline and magnetic resistance features by employing the 19 preloaded workout programs included with the NordicTrack CX 1055. These workouts are of varying lengths and can be used to target specific areas (e.g. arms, legs) or goals. The CX 1055 also comes with a unique feature called MyDesign that allows you to design your own workout program to meet your own goals and needs. On top of all these workout choices, the CX 1055 is also iFit compatible. What this means is that you have the ability to load (either from CDs or downloaded from the computer) additional workouts onto your NordicTrack CX 1055 treadmill. This is a great feature as it allows you to further vary your workouts which alleviates boredom and challenges your muscles. Despite all of these pluses, the NordicTrack CX 1055 does have a number of drawbacks in addition to the stride length already mentioned. The CX 1055 unfortunately was made with poor quality components for its price range, which leads to less than average reliability over time. The 1055 also has a relatively low weight limitation (250 lbs) which is too low for many individuals who would consider this elliptical as part of a weight loss plan. Additionally, the 1055 is a fairly quiet machine but some of the parts shake during a workout. All of this considered, the NordicTrack CX 1055 is a reasonably priced machine for casual use. However, there are better ellipticals out there, even at lower price points. There are a number of lower priced machines out there that feature iFit workouts, incline capability, and in many cases better parts and a higher weight limit.
