Tunturi Treadmills

Tunturi treadmills have been around for a long time. This Tunturi treadmill review covers some of their history, price range, and the best features Tunturi treadmills offer. Keep reading for more information, comparisons, warranties, and pros and cons of Tunturi treadmills.

Tunturi is a Finnish brand you may not be familiar with, but if you're in the market for a treadmill, you should be. The Tunturi company is the largest manufacturer of bicycles in Finland and has been manufacturing fitness equipment for over 80 years. The Tunturi brand is part of the Accell Group which is located in Turku, Finland. All of their treadmills that are sold in the United States are now manufactured in Taiwan which has lowered the price but also lowered quality according to some.

In spite of the change in their manufacturing, Tunturi is still a wonderful brand with quite a legacy. The company started all the way back in 1922 when two brothers set up a small cycle shop which specialized in bicycle repairs to begin with. Soon the brother began to produce bicycles on a small scale and within just a few years they moved from the small shop to a larger, very modern factory. By the 1950s the Tunturi brand was the leader in mopreds and in 1969 Tunturi introduced the W1 "ergometer" from which sprouted the indoor fitness industry and led to the company being an internationally recognized leading producer of fitness equipment. The Tunturi company continues to be a pioneer today and continually improves its products and introduces new features. Tunturi is a big competitor in Europe and has a large share of the market in Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Recently they have increased their share of the North American market.

Tunturi treadmills manufactured for home use are moderately priced. They run an average of $1,500 and the new T-series (technically "light commercial") are priced above $3,000. For your money, you're purchasing a high quality machine with a particularly strong motor. In fact, most Tunturi motors have a 15 year warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty on parts and electronics is weak in comparison, usually about one year. If you register your machine, the company will extend the warranty for another year.

One of the best features of Tunturi treadmills is the excellent shock absorption of their running deck. Tunturi treadmills offer some of the best joint protecting shock absorption available today, particularly at this price range. If joints are an issue for you, you would do well to consider Tunturi. In addition to premium shock absorption, Tunturi treadmills feature heart rate monitors, easy to use consoles and remote touch keys for speed and incline, space saving folding capability, and pre-loaded workout programs. In fact, some machines come with 35 workout programs!

Tunturi treadmills are a decent choice, but they have a great deal of competition in their price range. The sub-par warranty of Tunturi treadmills is a huge drawback to these machines, particularly if you're buying a $3,000 T-series model. There also aren't many distributors in the United States and this could pose a problem when it comes to repairs and maintenance. In spite of their long history and reasonable prices, Tunturi faces very stiff competition that only shines a brighter light on their downsides. Unfortunately, compared to other brands, Tunturi treadmills just don't measure up. For this reason, we would suggest you consider other brands that offer similar features, but that come with better warranties and higher quality manufacturing.

Tunturi treadmills can be purchased through online retailers.
