Proform 380 CS Review

This Proform 380 CS treadmill review offers the pros and cons to this entry level treadmill. Learn what to expect when buying a Proform 380 as far as specifications, key features, and warranties. Keep reading to see if the Proform 380 CS is the right treadmill for you.

The Proform 380 CS treadmill is an entry level machine that is usually priced below $500.  One interesting feature of of the 380 CS is that it comes with an MP3 player port, something not typical of treadmills in this price range.

In addition to the MP3 player port, the Proform 380 CS comes with many great features such as six pre-loaded workout programs.  These programs were all designed by a Certified Personal Trainer and will push you to meet your fitness goals.  One downside of the Proform 380 CS, however, is that it is not iFit compatible, which definitely puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to adding variety and personalization to your workouts.  If iFit technology is something that you are interested in, you should take a look at machines in a higher price range.

Proform also includes great features like automatic or manual speed and incline control, a dual-grip EKG heart-rate monitor and a powerful 1.5 CHP motor.  Automatic speed and incline control would come into play when you are completing one of the preloaded workouts.  If you choose to manually control the speed and incline you can set them at whatever level you'd like and change them up to design your own workouts.  The heart rate monitor will ensure that you working out at the optimum level and are adequately challenging yourself.  Finally, the motor will offer smooth, reliable, and speeds up to ten miles per hour, though it may not be powerful enough for those who consider themselves fitness enthusiasts and are looking for the most challenging treadmill workouts and plan a heavy workout schedule.

On top of all of this, the Proform 380 CS also comes with a few comfort features like extra deck cushioning and a workout fan.  The cushioning will help to protect your joints and prevent injury.  The fan obviously will help to keep you cool while you're sweating away on your treadmill.  The console also allows you to track time, calories burned, heart rate and distance walked.  These are all great features to have on such a modestly priced piece of home fitness equipment.  The 380 CS also has a maximum user weight of 250 pounds, which is right in line with similarly priced machines.

One of the biggest problems with the 380 CS (and low priced treadmills in general) is that when buying from most retailers you have the option of putting it together yourself.  This creates problems because once you get all the parts home, you don't know if you have a problem until you have it all together.  Not to mention that putting the machine together is time consuming and would be very difficult for some as there are heavy parts involved.  Luckily, the Proform 380 CS does come with a warranty which will cover you if you have any problems right out of the box.  The parts warranty is pretty weak, however, at only 90 days (again, typical of low priced treadmills).  The motor warranty is much better and will cover you for 5 years.

Another drawback to the Proform 380 is that it is flimsy.  This won't be too much of a problem if you are small (both in height in weight), but as you get closer to the machine's capacity it won't feel sturdy under your feet, particularly at high speeds.

Overall, the Proform 380 CS is a decent machine for the price.  The 380 comes with a good set of features for this price range.  If you are a larger person, however, you may not be comfortable on this machine and the deck space will definitely be too small for you.  This may also not be the treadmill for you if you're looking for long term variety in your workouts - instead look for an iFit compatible machine.
