Proform 540 Treadmill Review

This Proform 540 treadmill review offers an unbiased review of this entry level budget treadmill. This treadmill offers Proform spacesaver, EKG monitor, iFit compatible, and more. Learn the pros and cons of the Proform 540 and see how it compares to other treadmills.

The Proform 540 treadmill is a good looking machine for those on a budget. However, keep in mind that budget treadmills usually aren’t great for runners and the 540 is no exception. If you want a quality, entry level home treadmill for walking and moderate jogging, the Proform 540 might not be the best choice.

There are many great features that come with the Proform 540 treadmill. The one-touch QuickSpeed control allows you to change the speed of your run from 0-10mph without the need of holding down buttons. While the power incline feature makes it easy for you to slant the machine for a more intense workout. Then there’s the 19” x 55” tread belt with ProShox™ impact absorption. ProShox reduces stress on your joints and back so you can have the most comfortable and injury-free run in every workout. Additionally, this treadmill has seven built-in workouts along with the optional iFit technology to keep your workouts interesting and fun. There is also an EKG heart rate monitor enables you to workout in your target heart rate zone. Finally, the 540 comes with a two-speed workout fan that will keep you cool during your workouts.

Another great plus to the Proform 540 treadmill is the SpaceSaver fold up design. This feature is perfect for those who have limited space for fitness equipment in their home. The machine has a belt size of 18x55 inches and great deck cushioning that helps prevent joint injury.

Unfortunately, the Proform 540 has reliability and quality issues that are the result of its low price-tag. This treadmill comes with a standard warranty, the 10 year motor warranty is pretty good, but 90 days on parts is not enough because the 540 is made so cheaply. Manufactured by Icon, the Proform 540 treadmill is just one in a large line of machines. Icon is the manufacturer of such lines of fitness equipment as NordicTrack, Image and Weslo, in addition to Proform. In spite of having such a well known name behind it, the 540 still lacks too much in quality for us to recommend it. If the company were to offer a better warranty, we might be able to overlook some of the quality issues. As it is, while the Proform 540 may save you money on the initial price, without a better warranty you will probably end up shelling out a considerable amount for repairs and replacement parts over the years.

As with everything else, you get what you pay for when you buy a treadmill. If you're a seasoned runner who wants a quality treadmill with long warranties, the Proform 540 really isn’t for you. If you only want an entry level machine to walk on a few days a week, the 540 might be enough for you, but keep in mind the quality and warranty issues.
