How to Repair a ProForm Treadmill Continual use of any brand of treadmill will necessitate repairs over time. Some treadmill problems can be easily troubleshooted at home, but other repairs will most likely require a professional. Follow these easy steps to see if you can determine your issue and potentially repair it yourself. If you can’t repair it yourself, following these guidelines should keep you from damaging your ProForm treadmill or worse, hurting yourself.
Check your Warranty First things first, make sure you are fully aware of any warranty considerations you should make prior to any repair to ensure that you don’t void the warranty by mistake. You should also know the exact model number of your machine and make sure it is not plugged in before you attempt any repairs yourself. Consult your Owners Manual Your owners manual should include a basic troubleshooting guide that will help you determine exactly what the problem is with your treadmill (if your machine is doing A, then B is your issue). Once you’ve zeroed in on your problem, the owners manual will have steps you can systematically work through to see if you can resolve your issue on your own, otherwise the manual will suggest you consult a professional. Test for Common Problems If your machine will turn on, try to walk on it to see if it will shut off and how long it takes to shut off. Performing this test will help you to identify if the issue is with your machine’s speed sensor. You will know this is the problem if the treadmill turns off before you can take a step. The sensor will need to be replaced as it isn’t getting the signal to the computer that makes your machine work. This is something you can do yourself on some treadmills and your owners manual will indicate whether or not you can and how to perform a replacement. If your treadmill doesn’t work properly after you’ve taken a step or two, then the belt needs to be examined for wear and tear. If the tread belt is too worn then you may need to replace it entirely, otherwise it may just need lubrication or both. Your owner’s manual will have a guide for applying lubrication and information on ordering a replacement tread belt if needed. Contact a Professional If you problem still remains unresolved, then it is probably time to consult a repair professional (such as one from the store where you originally purchased your treadmil) or ProForm headquarters. If you attempt to make repairs beyond what your owners manual recommends you do yourself, you run the risk of damaging your machine beyond repair or injuring yourself.
