Weider Fitness Equipment

Weider Fitness Equipment is part of the Icon Health and Fitness company. Weider products include kettle bells, free-weights, home gyms, and much more. Check out this Weider Fitness Equipment review to learn more about the Weider products, history, warranties and more.

Weider is a name brand of fitness equipment that is manufactured and sold by fitness giant Icon Health and Fitness. Icon Health and Fitness is a privately owned Logan, Utah, based company that employes roughly 6,000 people and had an estimated $1 billion in annual sales in 2000. Icon Health and Fitness is actually the world’s largest manufacturer of fitness and exercise equipment. Products manufactured by Icon sold under the Weider name include kettle bells, free-weights, home gyms, weight benches, body weight systems and other related fitness items. These products are sold through catalogs and the Weider Fitness website, infomercials, and brick and mortar retailers.

Weider Health and Fitness was originally started by Ben Weider, a Canadian co-founder of the International Federation of Body Builders, along with his brother Joe Weider. (Interestingly enough, Ben Weider is also known for his knowledge of Napoleonic history.) Weider Health and Fitness acquired ProForm and Weslo in 1988, expanding the 50-year old company that was already known as a manufacturer of sport and nutrition products as well as being the nation’s largest producer of health and fitness lifestyle magazines. In 1994, Weider sold ProForm Fitness Products, Weslo and Weider Care to the company that would become Icon Health and Fitness. Icon products are sold under the brand names of Weslo, ProForm, HealthRider, Weider, IMAGE, JumpKing, Reebok and NordicTrack.

In recent years, Icon has attempted to make Weider brand products even more accessible to recreational home body-builders. A door-mounted home gym product was introduced called Weider X-Factor to address this as it works for almost anyone, including those who don’t have much space for home gym equipment. The X-Factor mounts on virtually any door and provides 210 pounds of resistance. A purchased X-Factor kit will include the actual X-Factor apparatus that attaches to your door (along with two handles, two ankle straps and four connection clips for its use), an exercise chart, three DVDs and a nutritional guide. On the DVDs you’ll find instruction materials and workouts. The nutrition guide includes a CD-ROM that you may find useful if you want to combine an eating plan with your X-Factor workout plan. You can purchase this kit for under $100 on sale. Weider also offers an X-Factor home gym for $599 which is a good option if you have the space in your home.

Another great Weider product for home fitness enthusiasts is their Powerbell. The Weider Powerbell combines seven kettleballs into one as you can easily and quickly adjust from 10 pounds up to 40 pounds or from 5 pounds up to 20 pounds. Powerballs sell from $99 to $250. Your Powerball purchase also includes a workout DVD and fitness journal. This is a great product as it allows you to have the versatility in weights without wasting the space to store them.

Weider also sells dumbells of various weights, weight benches, weight racks, jump ropes, weight belts, gloves and more to complete your home gym. Most Weider products come with a 90 day warranty and the company has a reasonable return policy.
